Are we taking life for granted?

It seems so natural the things we find ourselves doing. We get up and go about life in a way that seems common, just the effortless ordinary way of life. After all of our busy chores we turn in to rest never stopping to think or to give thanks for the day and all its ups and down. I must ask; are we taking life for granted?

The good book says, “To everything there are times and seasons to every purpose under heaven.” If we look at this we would not want to take life for granted. In life, seasons change. You might be going through those change at this moment; this is the time to hold on and don’t give up.

Just a few years ago I was sitting at home then the news was on the airways that tragedy struck our nation. No one would have imagined the catastrophic moment and the changes we would all go through because of one moment in time. History will recall the moment that took us into a recession like no other. It was time to stop and think of the many opportunities that came our way and what we did with them. If we look at life in a realistic manner we would not dare to take life for granted!

How do we take life for granted? Day by day we let life pass without making any adjustments for the things we face. Have you ever asked yourself; what is life’s meaning, what is the purpose or the origination or destination? Where are we heading and how do we get to that destination? It seems too easy to take things for granted because we are not up against the wall and our future might look a little bright.

One thing is certain even when we do nothing, life will still move on. Have you ever thought the after life there is a judgment? We have to come face to face with the decisions we make. Please don’t just stand around and do nothing, make a contribution and see how different life will become! Please don’t take life for granted. Make the fullest use of the opportunities that it presents. In that moment you can help to change lives and make an impact on the individuals you meet.

When you take life for granted it means that you do not appreciate life. Therefore you become reckless; you take risk without giving much thought to the consequences. You do not love the life you live; you have a negative outlook on life.

The story is told of a certain rich man, who had a steward; he was accused of wasting his master goods. His master called him, and said unto him, what is this that I hear of thee? Give the account of thy stewardship; for you will no longer be the steward.  This person was taking life for granted thinking that things will never change. However he was quick to take a look at his life and realize the mistakes he was making. What shall I do, seeing that my lord will take away the stewardship from me?

The opportunity presents itself so he considered his future and made some adjustments. He was now very old and did not have much strength left. However he made the decision to stop taking life for granted. I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses. This person was not even making provision for a place to live after retirement. For him the job and the opportunity will always be there so let the good times roll! He was wrong! After much consideration, he called each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, how much do you owe? And he said A hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bond, and sit down quickly and write fifty.

Then said he to another, And how much do you owe? And he said A hundred measures of wheat. He said unto him, Take thy bond, and write eighty. And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: He looked at life and did not take it for granted any longer. In the process he was able to live a rich and fulfilled purposeful life.

So many times we look at the half Picture and think that is enough only to find ourselves coming up short. However I hope that I can help someone to see the big picture and never take life for granted!
