We have all watched with horror and amazement as the event of CharlesTown unfolded. We thought, here we go again! What we thought was the coming of age of this great nation has suddenly turned into a mascaraed of opportunist bigotry and hate. How could there be a storm of hate so persuasive that captured the frontline of all human imagination. We have now revealed the true nature of what this place we all love has become. It only took a few turns of indecisiveness and a forgotten past to take us back to the place we vowed never to return.
I recalls the lyrics of a song I heard before: “Out of chaos and strife, we have found a hope we have never known. A glimpse, just a glimpse, just a gleam but a flicker of light like we have never seen.” This was the way I felt just a few years ago but now my soul is in search for this peace and assurance that this light will ever show. “Yet in spite of all our hardship and misery and poor economic condition we must struggle on.” We will never forget but we must carry on!
Only a few weeks later we are here together lending a hand to those in need in the time of disaster. We see the outpouring of love as the nation come together lending a hand of love and togetherness helping to heal the wounds of those affected. Let’s ask ourselves why can’t we all just get along; live in peace with love for all mankind? No matter how awful the situation might look, not everyone is a spreader of hate. Unity will hold us together in times of crisis and human turmoil. Let us not live in despair!
We send our prayers to those affected by this disaster (Harvey). We share our resources not forgetting everyone in need. Today we are well and in high spirit, tomorrow we could be in the very same condition so let us take up the challenge and lend a helping hand!
I do not want to divert to what was written a few weeks ago so I am attempting to continue this dialog. It is now our turn and the arrow is pointing at us. The lasting effect of Irma will be felt for decades to come. History has rewritten itself because we have never seen anything like it before and all records seems to have been broken! Though we might have been spared the wrath of the wind, some have to deal with the flood of rising water as we seek to salvage what is left of the memories and memorabilia’s that can never be replace. We need a helping hand, a hand of mercy and grace. We need a hand of comfort and courage because some are living in despair. Some have lost hope and are barely hanging on. Let’s not forget the words of the Psalmist: “Yea thou I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me.” When all is gone we turn to God!!
The pressure is mounting as we look around: we ask what next, who can we turn to? This is the magnitude of what we have never seen. It stretches from the Caribbean to the Americas. The chaos the heart break and despair. It is time to hold on, don’t give up the fight. I believe that help is on the way. As the darkness fell so will the light break through. We can all do our part in some way to lend a helping hand. Comfort the weak, reaching out to the poor and lonely spreading the love to let someone know that we care! This is the time for us to break down barriers across borders, spread love that will dispel hate; a time for unity when we all can stand as one human chain holding hands across nations, towns and cities in love for all!
Is it normal to be afraid? I believe so! Fear builds courage and courage build trust, faith, hope and a belief in one self. This is how we are going to be able to move on and conquer the giants that surrounds us. The moment for us to rise is now. Let’s be resilient and rebuild for the future not only homes of brick and mortar but lives built on a solid foundation. No matter the storms of life we will stand because we have built upon a rock whose foundation will never crumble. It is time to lend a helping hand!
