The power to influence

Peter was fed up with things as they were. He had a close relation and association with his boss but suddenly, he was gone, taken by a crowd of people who thought he was a traitor. After considering all his options he then made the decision to go back to his old stumping ground, the way of life he knew. He said to his friends, I️ am going fishing. They followed his lead without any question. They were in dismay and despair; their hope for salvation and a future of promises was taken and there was no one who could help, no one they could trust. They held on to anything which seemed a source of strength in moments of despair. They held to things which seems to be of help but that to leave them in a state of uncertainty. Peter was the influencer the one who had the power to control. He knew how to manipulate the situation twisting things for his own advantage.

In life we are constantly confronting situations that forces us to choose. Being in such place of challenge causes us to ask, where to do we go from here? Everyday and in some way, we are constantly being influenced by persons places or things. It might not be so obvious however, as we look at the facts the truth will be exposed. We are being influential by the media, things we see and hear, the places we go, the friends we keep etc. The desire for thing is the result of their influence on our lives. The call for us to spend what we do not have? We buy things we do not need. We are trapped with lifestyles we can’t afford all because of the things we see and seek after. The influence and the perception that guide our lives. However, we must choose the path we trod.

The power of influence can be a dysfunction a source for good or evil. It can turn a bad situation into positive result or a good situation into negatives. It can help to improve situation and circumstances which in turns can improve society, help us to gain self respect and change the world.

Let me try to define influence base on my research: It is the power to influence someone or something. When we have an influence on someone or something, they are changing a person or thing in some indirect but important way. I would like to ask a very simple question. How have you been influenced? Was it in a good or bad way? How has it affected you in your decision making? Did it leave any mark on your behavior or perception of others? How are you dealing with the residue that remains? As you look inwardly these are questions that only you can answer. Be gracious and kind but you must also be true to yourself with the answers you give!

There are differing aspects of influences. We have social influence: this can be psychological which is being exhibited in relationships; for instance, minority influence which affects the behavior or beliefs of the minority. You are also affected by what you see, the perception you have about your encounters. What influence you to buy the car or truck you buy. These are some of the thing that affects us daily; they do more to direct the decisions we make than we might want to admit.

I know that there are more we can discuss on this matter, but time will not allow me to state more. The fact is we are constantly being influenced in very significant ways. We might not be the person we are had it not been for the influences which surrounds us from day to day. In our rolls as Leaders everything we do is about influence, it is not just a title or something that is designated. God seek to influence humanity in doing the right things just as much as a mother or father extends their spheres of influences over their children. One more thing to consider; our minds influence the key activity of the brain, which then influences everything that we do! Never forget the power of influence and the effects is has on our society!
