The Dream

We are people of dreams, we grow up wanting to becoming heroes. Someone that society can look up to. We would like to champion the cause of the poor the homeless and the disenfranchised. Your family might have made a covenant; you would be the great hero they had hoped to become. A dream they have been long waiting to see fulfilled; they have lived the disappointment and now all eyes are placed on you. You were their hopes and dreams but alas their hopes have all but faded away.

Gods’ word said, without a vision the people perish. Prov.29: 18. What is vision you? Visions are dreams locked up inside our hearts waiting to be released. (This is my personal interpretation base on my opinion.)  While it is important to dream, be careful to follow those dreams if they are going to lead us to a path of success. Dreams are important driving force that propels us to the next level of life experiences.

I must admit that in our quest for fulfillment, we are faced with many frustrating moment. With the hope for self-fulfillment, self-awareness and self-gratification, we have lost what it means to be a hero and a leader. We have sold morality for economic privileges. We have given up the dreams of what was once important to us. What once grab our attention, the things for which our heart and soul craved. We progress through time and have now come of age to see our dreams come to pass: We have lost our dignity as producers in the work force and have succumbed to the stresses of eroded humanity and have lost our ideals to immoral, illegal, unethical or irresponsible actions. Every day we hear about it, someone is reaping from the seeds they have sown. They are unwilling to be identified because now their harvest has blossomed while they are refusing to reap their crop of indignity!

In this world, we live, we are progressing in technology but we are taking a backward turn in morality and spirituality. Our young people have become fathers and mothers but could only be qualify as children themselves. They are not equipped with the tools, the moral fiber and daring courage to stand up to society and give direction to the ones they help to bring into this world. Frustration has cause them not to want to dream. The result is a life of crime, hopelessness and now we are a decadence society. If we fail to dream, we are not fulfilling our God given responsibility, we are not living the life of success that God has ordained for humanity.

I once heard someone make this remark, “I have been down so many times, I don’t even think of getting up.” What are we living for, what are our hopes and aspiration? We cannot allow the pressures of society to guide us through a life of hopelessness. Let us turn our situation around by giving God first place in our lives; only then we can find the hope to dream again. People of the twenty first century, let us take up the torch of responsibility and run with dignity against the race of injustice, inequality and misfortune! God has given us a life filled with hopes and dreams. We must reach out and take hold of the promises He has left us. Those promises will lead us to live fulfilled lives with His blessings ever abounding in our path. Live the dream, you can make it to the next level in this life!

Opportunity

As we approach this season of fun and festivity, we look with grateful hearts to where we have been in life and how far we have come. It is a time to be thankful for all the blessings we have received in spite of the many challenges we faced. We must not forget the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made that has helped to move us into a more secured environment where peace and love exist. Your aspiration should be to create opportunities where humanity can co-exist in harmony, peace and friendship.

I know that everyone is looking forward to being with family and friends. We will come in anticipation and expectation because many would be seeing their love ones; celebrating a reunion for the first time in a long while. This should be what this season is all about. However, we cannot ignore the opportunities this gathering presents. It will be a time for completeness, honesty, love and respect.  A time when social and economic barriers are broken down; the wall of neglect frustration and confusion moved out of its place and a new wave of freedom and opportunity is birth.

As simple as it might sound, oppertunity is any exploitable set of circumstances. However, these might not always bring the results perceived. When you encounter opportunity, it requires commitment, exposure and risk.  Don’t use the moment for exploitation! It is a time of uncertainty as a result of change in circumstances. It is a moment when you can be your best; giving back instead of receiving.

The time to be thankful is now. We use this moment every year to share. We can meet the need of those around us rising to the occasion to spread love and kindness remembering those less fortunate. Remember no man is an island we all depend on someone to propel us on to great exploits; we are always grateful for the opportunities that was given us.

We are our brother’s keeper therefore let us look out for each other while lending a hand and giving thanks to God for all of the benefits he has bestowed on us as individuals and as a nation. Let us look to the future with great anticipation as we seize the moment and the opportunity to be a blessing. Have a great season!

Why?

In nineteen seventy-two a popular song was hitting the air-waves by Johnny Nash. “There are more questions than answer.” It was true back then and now; answers are slow to come while the questions keep increasing at a proportion that we are not able to keep pace; it’s beyond belief. Is this why we are so distrustful of others and always cast shadows of doubt in the face of compromise? Is this the reason for wars and conflicts in the world, in our society and on the streets? It seems no one has the answer therefore we continue to ask; Why?

Read the lyrics and you might be able to relate to what was in the mind of the writer and many who was and is still seeking answer for the questions they are asking today. “Why?” “There are more questions than answers. Pictures in my mind that will not show, there are more questions than answers. And the more I find out the less I know Yeah, the more I find out the less I know. I’ve asked the question time and time again; Why is there so little of a moment Oh, what is life, how do we live What should we take and how much should we give”

There are more questions than answer. There will never be a time when this question become outdated. Is it worth asking?  With what reasoning or sense of purpose? “Why.” For many this question can be annoying or intimidating base on the intent or the inherent challenge that it possess. Once you are not intimidated there is no real threat and no alarm. We can be comfortable knowing that there will always be a reason for asking why.  When you are in certain situation it can become critical or dangerous to even ask why.

Although we often resist the suggestion; the slightest possibility of a negative connotation or argument that would question our direction, arguments or instructions, why is not a terrible question to ask! Why is used to offer a suggestion or to say that a course of action is not necessary. It is also used to express irritation or annoyance. When face with a decision that is important to change the course of time, history or an organization, it is important to stop for a moment and ask why.

We have celebrated Memorial Day and many have done so in the past. We look forward with anticipation because it is a time when we take a break from work and relax with family and friends. Have you ever stop to ask the question why? Why do we celebrate this day; what is the meaning and how did this time come about? Although this might be considered irrelevant, I am sure that there are millions of people who does not know the true meaning and reason for Memorial Day. The question is why? For what reason, purpose, or cause?

I would like to take a look at the whys for this moment and time in the history of this nation. “Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868, when the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of Union veterans — established it as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. By the 20th century, competing Union and Confederate holiday traditions, celebrated on different days, had merged, and Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.” Wikipedia

Johnny wanted to know about the pictures in his mind that will not show. However the more he find out the less he knew. Today many are asking the reason for their existence. Why am I here? They are searching for a sense of purpose. Why look to another person for satisfaction; why seek pleasure out of things that will eventually fade away? I know the answer to all the questions on your mind! Eternity will bring to an end the reasoning and the question of why. We were created in the likeness and image of our creator however man drifted away seeking to find peace and satisfaction. The only way to meet all these needs and get a sense of hope is to return to the one who is the manufacturer. The maker has all the answers; he designed you to be the best you can be. Why? Because he loves you and is waiting to give you the answers to the why’s; so why not?

Just What Are You Saying?

It is incredible to think that for more than eight and a half billion years this universe has been in existence without us realizing that the environment has lost its most important elements and are now rotating in the wrong direction. It has fast become a myriad of social injustice and behavioral malfunction that causes the essence of belonging to overtake the vision for scientific advancement.  With this said, I am just trying to grab your attention to the effect of words spoken or words written. Thou it sound very sophisticated the question is, Just what am I saying?

Words are important; it is all we hear every day. We become over whelmed by what we hear; words have the power to create an environment that will change the course of history. Your words create impressions. It says something about the one speaking. It is often misunderstood, ridiculed and ignored; as a result it creates barrier to wholesome dialogs.

Words carefully chosen will do wonders: they will get folks caring about the things we care about, crying with emotions or laughing senselessly at jokes meant to cheer us up. The power of words can make us fall in love; soothe our aching hearts. Trades are made through contracts and persuasion. It is the way we reach out to those we target when we want to accomplish our goals. The power of words can build friendship or tear down emotions resulting in the creation of enemies; it can change the world and the course of history.

In light of this knowledge, have you ever asked yourself; just what am I saying? It is time to stop and think; it’s time to evaluate! The word says, “The power of life and death is in the tongue.” It is time to speak life not just to your neighbors but also to yourselves. Consider what you have said for the past year. Look at the result of what you have planted! Does it even bother you that what is happening in your life or relationship is a direct result of your own words? So I will ask once again: Just what are you saying?

I know this might be a strange topic to think about but it is something we all have to face every day. Remember the time when your confidence was at its peak? You spoke to yourself because you had a goal in mind; you could envision yourself accomplishing that goal. Why was it so? You spoke life into your situation and things happened. It might have surprised you but you spoke it and it came to pass. This was the power of words spoken.

Can I challenge you to think for a moment about the power of words? This world with all of its beauty was created with words. God said, Let there be light and it was so. He created this earth by speaking words and His words came to life and set things into motion. Similarly He has given us that ability to change our direction and to make a difference. Speak words of power over your situation and watch the result of the words you have spoken!

Do you remember that old adage: “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can do me no harm?” Now that you have grown and reflect on the pass and what words have done: what do you think? Words create fear, anger, hurt and it makes you sad. Don’t be manipulated by words work through the clutter and speak over the voices of hurt and fears.

It is incredible what words will do. You can take control of your destiny just by transforming your vocabulary; change the quality of life which in turn affects your environment. Don’t be a sadder (I don’t know if there is such a word but just remember that I made it up) or you will make everyone sad. Be a joy and a lightning rod and watch a fire of delight burn around you and the ones you associates with.

Finally I will stir your mind to think of the situation of Joseph when he was in prison in Egypt. Because of the words of one who sought to control his destiny he was placed into the prison cell; he did not lose hope. He continued to dream of the day when he would be release however that day seemed far away. Through providence he spoke into the lives of his cell mates and was eventually forgotten. His words stood the test of time when one day it was his time to speak again. He spoke life into dead situation and was placed into the highest position of power in the land. Those who did not want to hear him came bowing and begging all because of the power of words.

Please do not fail to realize that words have the power to create and affect attitudes, behavior, and perception. Therefore I will say to, words have meaning, but it has no power unless the perceived mental state of an individual gives power to the words spoken and is being been heard. I will say sticks and stones can break my bones but words can do great harm! Speak words of life and watch as things and situations transform.

Is there anybody listening?

Not too long ago I started to think of the many trends and the overly excessive behavior that pervades our society; it causes me to contemplate with a deep sense of inner responsiveness towards the things that set in motion the things that are going on. I am confronted with the question; that unbearable voice filled with the emotions I heard so many times in the form of a song by a famous singer song writer; “What’s going on?” Are there any answers? Is there anybody listening? Though solemn, it is the cry for notability; a cry for justice, peace and satisfaction that often goes unnoticed until it is too late! This is a cry for help!

In my quest for answers I happened upon a song with the same theme. This draws me to look more closely at the lyrics, investigating the heartbeat of the ones who was so intense with passion; they too were left with the question seeking to find an answer.

Here are the words of the song which is a collaborative effort of Tate, Geoffrey W / Degarmo, Christopher.

“Long ago there was a dream, had to make a choice or two. Leaving all I loved behind, for what nobody knew, Stepped out on the stage, alive under lights and judging eyes. Now the applause has died and I can dream again.

Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone who smiles without a mask? What’s behind the words? Images, they know will please us I’ll take what’s real, bring up the lights. Is there anybody listening? Is there anyone that sees what’s going on? Read between the lines; criticize the words they’re selling.

Think for yourself and feel the walls become sand beneath your feet. You and I long to live like the wind upon the water. If we close our eyes, we’ll maybe realize there’s more to life than what we have known and I can’t believe, I’ve spent so long Living lies, I knew were wrong inside I’ve just begun to see the light.”

This is the twenty-first century yet just like the last and centuries before we are all asking the same questions hoping to get an answer. We have reached the moon and conquered space. We have made many advances in history but still we are at the same place! Laws are legislated and privileges have been taken away trying to make the society better through whatever means but the cry has not lessened, it is just the same. Is there anybody listening?

If you turn on the light does this sound familiar? Every day and everywhere questions have been asked but no one ever answer. Kids are succumbing to the act of bullying with cries for help but nobody is listening until it’s too late. Society is in a fix with trouble looming on every side. Gun violence is everywhere yet those who can do something to make a change  have been bought by wealthy capitalist. The poor and disenfranchised who give them their jobs have been the objects of rejection. The wealthy and famous; the rich and the poor all meet at the same place of despair with the same longing yearning and empty hearts. The question they all ask; is anybody listening?

Behind the many smiles and laughter lies the pain. It is too unbearable to stay; for some the solution though rear is the only way out of despair. No one wants to hurt any because the consequences are too hard to bear but the fact that remains; we all go along daily not noticing the scare the folks are facing. The question I am sure that prevails on their mind is one that is most prominent to most; is there anybody listening?

What is happening around us? What in the world is going on? It seems that there is no more need to be concern because it is happening so often. Have we returned to the dark ages where barbarians rule? You don’t have to answer the question but just take a deep breath and look at our society and listen to the news! Men and women boys and girls are crying out for attention but there is no one there to help. We may express our feeling through the lyrics of a song and we all can patronize but the question remains.

Why the violence; why the dysfunction? The cell is not the answer! In a civil society let us all lend a hand and put our heads together and listen then we will understand. Don’t look on with a scorn do something now! Let us save our brothers and sisters, our sons and daughters. Let them know that we are listening! Volunteer in your areas of expertise and be an example. Let them know that you are listening and that you care!

Decisions; is it yours to make?

When I was a child I thought as a child but when I became a man I put away childish things! This is what we were thought or expect to happen but it might not be always the case. I know that this is already a bit controversial. However I would like to play with your minds for a while and cause you to think seriously about this.

As a child you are controlled by your parents or guardians. We depend almost entirely on them for help in making the right decisions. When we go wrong they are there to correct us and help us to overcome difficulties. “But when we become men we put away childish things!”

As a man or let’s say, as a person we have to rely on ourselves to make the right choices. Sometimes this is not easy because we live in a turbulent society and are faced with so many challenges that distracts us; it is hard to do the right thing at times and stay focus.

We have a society that seem to have lost its morals and are determined to be its own judge and jury.  To be a part of a civil society we must come to grip with the law and ethics and other things that is around us. For instance, how do we as men stand up for ourselves in the midst of a society that seeks to control even the morals essence of human dignity? We have to become strong men in tough times!

Time is slipping away; we are being controlled by those who control the media and are setting the standard that seems to govern our society. Do you ever wonder why we have so much senseless crimes in our society? It is because of our moral decay! When those who are trusted with the responsibility to make a change decide to be silent, then the wheels of degradation and distress will continue to turn and it is anyone’s guess where the motor will stop next.

The question is: Decisions; is it yours to make?

When making a decision it is the choice between possible actions. With that decision is a choice; the selection between two or more objects. Decision making can be regarded as the mental processes resulting in the selection of a course of action among several alternative scenarios. Every decision-making process produces a final choice. The output can be an action or an opinion of choice. Some people will tell you I did not take part so I did not make any decision. To that I would say you are mistaken because even your silence produces result and often it is one that you will not like.

We often complain about the ills of our society; too many gun violence and murders and we say why someone doesn’t do something about it! Do you remember the last time you had the opportunity to make a difference? What did you do? Stand on the sideline and hope for the best? If we are going to help change our society we have to do so block by block one neighborhood at a time but we will have to make that decision to take part.

I often wonder why gang violence is so prevalent. What are the cause and the cure for such behavior! First what is a gang?

A gang is a group of recurrently associating individuals or close friends with identifiable leadership and internal organization, identifying with or claiming control over territory in a community, and engaging either individually or collectively in violent or other forms of illegal behavior. The fact as I have stated, these are decisions that have been made those decisions have produced evil consequences; we all have to live with them. The decision is ours to make and the time is now. Don’t be on the side-line and wait until it’s too late. The decision is your to make!

Just recently we heard of another innocent victim that killed. What is the reason you may ask! The thing is, Gang members typically have to prove their loyalty by committing acts such as theft or violence; this might be the cause for such innocent killings. Again I must state that the decisions are ours to make. We cannot be on the sideline and hope for the best. One day it might be too late and the effect might be staring you in the face with grief and pain leaving you with the question; why me?

Decision making regardless to whether you like to or not, it’s yours to make! It is critical that we make good decision. Gang leaders have to make critical decision. However wrong,  those who follow are subjected to his decision. Decision making is an essential leadership skill. Therefore learning how to make timely, well-considered decisions can lead your team to well-deserved success. If, however, you make poor decisions, your time as a leader will be brutally short.

As a leader you must have the leadership skills necessary to guide your team to success. How good is your leadership skill? First, are you willing to be led? If you are, then it will be easy to lead. This is critical in determining your style of leadership. Remember we are talking about decision-making! Therefore you have to understand how to handle power effectively.

I know that I can continue to state more facts of interest but I just want to stir your mind to stop and think. Yes! Decisions are your to make so stand up and be counted before it is too late!

R.I.P the End of a Civil Society

Are we “One nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all?”

Half a century ago, at the height of anti-Communist fervor, Congress added the words ”Under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance. It was a petty attempt to link patriotism with religious piety, to distinguish us from the godless Soviets. But after millions of repetitions over the years, the phrase has become part of the backdrop of American life, just like the words ”In God We Trust” on our coins and ”God bless America” uttered by presidents at the end of important speeches. (N.Y. times)

In today society it has become the melting pot for moral decay and decadence. We are now faced with the rottenness of a so call society that would cause the death of the already dead! The question is; how did we as a nation come to this brink? Look at what is happening even at this moment when our society is said to be more civilized. We have more people with degrees than at any other time in the history of this nation yet we are more morally bankrupt.

Just in case you might be wondering, I am not commenting on things politically; that will be for another time and place. I must say that the standard of leadership and the corruption is clear and hard to ignore. Therefore I must conclude that this is truly: R.I.P the end of a civil society. It is the thing that causes great nations to fall.

When I was a child it was said; manners and behavior will take you anywhere in the world. This is a far cry from those days when folks respected each other.

Respect for authority has been thrown out of the window and everyone is being governed by their own ideals. Is this the place we thought it would be in a moment like this? Respect for authority is at an all time low. It is so clear in the media; we look at it as a new norm. It is disgusting and rude and there is no other way we should describe it! Let us as a nation get back to the art of respect and for the ideals that this great nation was built upon! Don’t be afraid to stand up for what is morally right without intruding on the rights of others. Give respect where respect is due. Let us stay true to our motto, “One Nation under God.”

Happy thanks giving and may God bless us all as a nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all!
